Plant-based cat litter is primarily derived from natural plant resources-typically renewable plant fibers, agricultural by-products, and plant starches-which are processed to create a product capable of absorbing moisture, forming clumps, and controlling odors. Compared to traditional mineral-based litters, plant-based options prioritize eco-friendly raw materials and efficient resource utilization; they meet the daily needs of cats while reducing reliance on non-renewable mineral resources.

Common raw materials for plant-based litter include soy pulp (okara), soy fiber, corn, cassava, pea fiber, wheat fiber, and bamboo fiber. "Tofu" litter, for instance, typically utilizes soy pulp or fiber-by-products of soy processing-as its main ingredient; through processes such as drying, pulverizing, and molding, it achieves excellent absorbency and clumping capabilities. Corn and cassava-based materials are rich in natural starch, which enhances the adhesion between litter granules, allowing the product to form stable clumps more easily upon contact with liquid.

Some plant-based litters incorporate additives to improve performance. For example, natural bentonite can be added to accelerate clumping and increase clump strength, while adsorbent materials like activated carbon or bamboo charcoal enhance odor control. Certain products also include plant extracts to improve the scent and overall user experience. These additives must be carefully proportioned to ensure a balance between absorbency, stability, and safety.

The raw materials generally undergo multiple processing steps-including screening, drying, grinding, mixing, granulation, and dedusting-to ensure the final product has a uniform granule structure and low dust content. High-quality plant-based litter requires not only a focus on the natural origin of ingredients but also the use of advanced processing techniques to optimize absorption speed, clumping performance, and product longevity, thereby meeting the modern household's demand for safe, eco-friendly, and efficient pet care products.
